OUR PARISH'S STORY
As the great Transylvanian writer, Orbán Balázs remarks, the Chapel of "Remeteszeg" is known by the tradition.
Its name is preseved in the name of the residential area.
Until the recent decades there were just a few catholic people in this residential area.
Otherwise, apartment buildings appeared in this district only after the end of the 1980s.
Catholic families from "Marosszék", from the villages around the river Nyárád, from Székely Land moved to our residential area called Unirii (Union).
For this reason a place where to celebrate the mass was needed. Buying a house was risky since nobody knew which house would not be demolished
by the actual political regime lead by Ceasescu (they prefered to build apartements houses and demolish old houses). Therefore the church bought
a house at the margin of the residential area. Its address is Kerektó street nr. 2. They modified the interior of the house by demolishing some walls
to obtain a larger room. This way this house became the meeting-house of the catholic people from this residential area. Thanks to the help of the priests
from the parish of the city centre and the volunteer service of parish members, the Bible classes could have been started. After the revolution of 1989,
in 1991 the believers got the approval for celebrating mass in this house.
Our house and our comunity got the approval of the state to become a parish in 1990. The first priest of the community was Ferencz István
who was placed in our parish only in 1995. Today 550 persons belong to our parish. Additionally, our parish serves in 21 small villages from "Mezoség"
where are just a few catholic believers.
The idea of building a church appeared right at the beginning and the preparation part has begun then.
In 2002 came a new parson, Szénégeto István. He continues his predecessor's and the community's activity.
The construction of the church is now in progress.
